Chapter Twenty-Six
CONNOR
She was upset. I could feel it as I walked out of the cabin. She was leaning over the rail, just staring into the water. She looked beautiful, her blonde hair was whipping around her face, and my t-shirt stopped just above her knees. As my eyes drifted down her long legs, I froze when I saw a small trail of blood running down her outside thigh.
âIs, your bleeding.â I said while walking towards her. Had she hurt herself? Why hadnât I smelled the dull scent of blood before?
Frowning at me, she placed a hand on her rib cage, âI know. I cut myself on the window glass when I jumped out.â
âWell, how bad is it?â I couldnât take my eyes away from her small hand which was holding her side, covering the small patch of blood that had bled through the t-shirt.
âIt will heal.â
It will heal. Had she even looked at it? With annoyance at her lack of caring, I walked towards her placing my hand over hers. âHave you even looked at it? It could be deep.â
âIâve had worst.â Her voice was calm and light as she spoke. Glancing at her face, she was watching me. My breathing began to become unsteady. I hope she didnât notice how uneasy I was around her.
âYou should at least look at it.â I frowned. Her eyes pierced through me and I could see the questions that flicked across them.
She turned from me and stared back out to the ocean which was calm and still. âCan I ask you something?â
Pulling my hand from her side and casually leaning over the rail, I pretended my attention was on the ocean in front of me; instead of my flawless mate beside me. âSure.â I said guardedly.
âWhen did you know I was yours?â She inhaled sharply, âWhen were you completely sure?â She exhaled quickly.
My fingers clenched around the rail. It was now or never. I had to tell her everything; I had to convince her that I loved her. I had to answer her questions. It was like driving off a cliff, not sure if you would survive the fall or not.
âWhen I first saw you at the dinner.â I turned to see her reaction, her eyes were closed tightly and I could hear her heart beat increasing.
âYou were one hundred percent sure I was yours?â She asked, not opening her eyes. I only now noticed the whiteness of her knuckles as she clung to the rail, like I had been doing.
Without over thinking it, I placed my hand over hers. Her eyes snapped open. Keeping my eyes locked with hers.
âI was and I am one hundred percent sure you are mine.â
A small tear began to leak from her eyes and it sent a stabbing sensation to my stomach.
âYou should have lied.â She muttered, her eyes drifting back to the ocean, away from mine.
Frowning, I leaned across and placed a hand under her chin, returning her eyes to me. âWhat do you mean?â
She blinked quickly and a few stray tears leaked from her eyes.
